UC Davis Mind and Machine Summer Camp Inspires New Generation with Connection Between Engineering, Neuroscience

For the second straight year, the Center for Neuroengineering and Medicine hosted the UC Davis Mind and Machine summer camp for area middle school students.  

The three-day camp is organized by Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Steering Committee member, and Founding Co-Director Emeritus of the Center for Neuroengineering and Medicine Sanjay Joshi and designed to introduce students to the concepts of engineering and neuroscience.

Program Gives Jumpstart to Student Researchers

When Valerie Klein enrolled at UC Davis on a pre-med track in fall 2021, her mind's-eye image of research revolved around looking at cells under a microscope. Thanks to a program that gets students into labs early, the aspiring psychiatrist is now investigating frontiers of the human brain and has gained a more expansive view of research.

Hi, I'm Greg. 

My name is Greg Disse, and I am a third-year medical student in the UC Davis MD/PhD program. A few weeks ago, I completed my PhD in Neuroscience where, under the mentorship of Dr. Karen Moxon, I analyzed neural signals generated by populations of neurons in the cerebral cortex during movement and investigated how those signals change after spinal cord injury.

Center Faculty Recognized for Teaching Excellence

Awards are presented annually to one faculty member and one graduate student teaching assistant in each department for their strong commitment to the educational mission and vision of the college. Awardees consistently perform above and beyond expectations in teaching and mentoring the next generation of engineers and leaders.
