Sanjay Joshi studies the intersection of robotics, controls, and human-machine interaction. He currently directs the Robotics, Autonomous Systems, and Controls Laboratory at UC Davis, housed within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He founded the UC Davis Neuroengineering and Medicine Initiative in 2014, which led to the UC Davis Center for Neuroengineering and Medicine in 2020. He served as one of the founding Co-Directors of this center from 2020-2022. Among other activities, he led the successful Provost’s Hiring Investment Program (HIP) proposal for Neuroengineering and Medicine in 2014. This resulted in three new faculty hires for Neuroengineering and Medicine, and additional hires in coordination with Neuroengineering and Medicine. In 2010-2011, he was Visiting Associate Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Medical School, New York City. Dr. Joshi previously served on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Rehabilitation Research and Development Service Scientific Merit Review Board, for a term from 2018-2022. Professor Joshi’s areas of research interest include human-machine interfaces, prosthetics control, medical devices for the aging population, and supernumerary robotics.
