Bio
Our laboratory is dedicated to understanding the neural bases of auditory perception, multisensory integration, and speech recognition. Our methods include non-invasive techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), high-density electroencephalography (EEG), and neural network analysis in people with healthy and impaired hearing. We study how different parts of the brain cooperate to achieve perception – especially in noisy environments – using mechanisms such as selective attention, echo suppression, and perceptual “filling in”. Our work has resulted in practical solutions for improved audiological diagnosis and may lead to new hearing-device designs, both wearable aids and neural implants.
