Xianglong Wang, PhD

Position Title
Assistant Professor of Teaching

  • Department of Biomedical Engineering
Bio

Traditional lectures are much harder for winning over students now, after the return to in-person classrooms following years in distance learning environments. Dr. Wang is interested in integrating evidence-based teaching strategies with core and applied courses in biomedical engineering to increase the performance and engagement level of the students. His current work includes a themed redesign of a bioinstrumentation course and a newly designed machine learning course for biomedical engineers. Dr. Wang maintains a small profile in discipline-based research, focusing on synthesizing biomedical time series data to improve deep-learning algorithms, for example, synthesizing atrial fibrillation electrocardiograms (ECG) to improve the performance of deep learning-based atrial fibrillation detectors.

Dr. Wang obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and Scientific Computing from University of Michigan. Prior to coming to UC Davis, he was the winner of the 2022 Reid Miller Teaching Excellence Award, a career achievement award in teaching excellence, at Washington State University, where he was a teaching faculty.
