Endogenous electric fields are naturally produced at wounds and provide a powerful signal to mobilize and guide cells to heal. Dr. Zhao's research goal is to elucidate the mechanisms by which damaged tissues generate and regulate endogenous electric signals, and how cells sense the electric fields. The Zhao lab also aims to develop electrical stimulation-based technologies for better wound healing and regeneration, including a neuroengineering approach.
