I am a third-year PhD student studying how the cerebellum and basal ganglia, two brain regions traditionally associated with motor function, contribute to emotional processing. My research uses direct recordings from the human brain to investigate activity within these regions and how they communicate with the cerebral cortex. We combine intracranial recordings with scalp EEG, eye tracking, and behavioral measurements. My medium-term goal is to identify brain activity patterns that can guide closed-loop deep brain stimulation (DBS) for treating affective symptoms in cerebellar disorders and Parkinson’s disease. Ultimately, I hope to contribute to the development of adaptive DBS systems that can sense brain activity and adjust stimulation in real time to improve mood in daily life.
