Sleep disturbances are a well-established comorbidity of epilepsy. Furthermore, sleep loss and fragmentation are known to worsen seizure control and contribute to cognitive comorbidities. I am interested in restoring sleep as a treatment for epilepsy. My research uses chemogenetics to activate a sleep-promoting brain region in epileptic mice, which I anticipate will reduce epileptiform activity and ameliorate cognitive deficits.
