Bio

Welcome to the "brain fluids" lab. I am a neurosurgeon-scientist with a background in chemical engineering and the lab has been on campus for just one year (as of September 2024). We are studying the neurobiology of brain fluid homeostasis, with implications in neurosurgery that are informed by and ultimately blend with my clinical practice.

This translational research can be divided into two broad categories: 1) developing novel treatments for hydrocephalus, and 2) determining the biological effects of brain fluid composition on cognition. For the first topic, we are working on A) a bioengineering approach with gene therapy to reduce the amount of brain fluid in the brain, and B) an upgraded hydrodynamic model of brain fluid pressure equilibrium to generate next-generation treatment strategies for hydrocephalus and related brain injuries.

For neuroengineers interested in the lab, I am looking for synergy and ingenuity on this last topic. Please contact me with questions. My lab website is http://sadeghlab.org
